John 16
Notable Verses:
John 16:1-2 NLT: “I have told you these things so that you won’t abandon your faith. For you will be expelled from the synagogues, and the time is coming when those who kill you will think they are doing a holy service for God.”
John 16:24 NLT: “You haven’t done this before. Ask, using my name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy.
John 16:33 NLT: “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
Discussion:
- Jesus had to return to Heaven for the Holy Spirit to come to earth (v 7).
- The Holy Spirit convicts the world of the sin of disbelieving Jesus. He convicts the world of the righteousness now made available because of the death of Christ. He also convicts the world that judgement is coming because the devil has already been judged and sentenced. (V 8 – 12).
- Jesus promises us peace in the midst of earthly trials and troubles (v 33).
Today’s Prayer:
Sweet Holy Spirit, I welcome you into my heart. Please guide me into all truth and reveal Jesus and the Father to me. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
