John 17

Notable Verses:

John 17:2 NLT: For you have given him authority over everyone. He gives eternal life to each one you have given him.”

John 17:14‭-‬16 NLT: “I have given them your word. And the world hates them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world.  I’m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one.  They do not belong to this world any more than I do.”

John 17:21 NLT: “I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.”

Discussion:

This chapter is mostly the prayer that Jesus made just before He went to the cross. He prayed that his disciples would be protected from the evil one. He also prayed for future believers in addition. 

  • The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the power behind our salvation. (Romans 1:16).
  •  Knowing Jesus is the only way to eternal life (John 17 v 2).
  • Jesus brought glory to God the Father by completing His earthly work and ministry (John 17:4).
  • Jesus prayed for the protection of his disciples from the evil one. He also prayed that all believers would be united so that the whole world would know that we are indeed God’s children John 17:11,21,23). 

Today’s Prayer: Dear Jesus, may I never be ashamed of your Gospel for I know that it is God’s power to save us from our sins.Thank you for the eternal life you promise to all those who know you. May my life bring glory to you. May I know you and walk with you. I pray for the unity of believers across the world so that your name will be glorified and many will come into your Kingdom. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
