Daily Memory Verse: Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord (1 Corinthians 15:58 NASB).”  http://bible.com/100/1co.15.58.NASB

Bible reading for the day:

Joshua 7

Notable Verses:

  • Joshua‬ ‭7:11-12‬ ‭NLT‬‬: “Israel has sinned and broken my covenant! They have stolen some of the things that I commanded must be set apart for me. And they have not only stolen them but have lied about it and hidden the things among their own belongings. That is why the Israelites are running from their enemies in defeat. For now Israel itself has been set apart for destruction. I will not remain with you any longer unless you destroy the things among you that were set apart for destruction.”
  • Joshua 7:26 NLT: “They piled a great heap of stones over Achan, which remains to this day. That is why the place has been called the Valley of Trouble ever since. So the Lord was no longer angry.”

Discussion:

  • In Joshua 6 vs 18- 19, God had given specific instructions on what to do with the precious items found. However, a man called Achan disobeyed and as a result, God turned His back on them. The Israelites lost a battle that was seemingly easy.
  • Achan and his family were stoned to death.

Today’s Prayer:
Lord please have mercy on me for all the ways I have disobeyed you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. (Phillipians 3:12 NLT)
