Daily Memory Verse: “Hate evil, you who love the Lord , Who preserves the souls of His godly ones; He delivers them from the hand of the wicked
(Psalms 97:10 NASB).” http://bible.com/100/psa.97.10.NASB
Bible reading for the day:John 11
Notable Verses:
- John 11:11,13,15 NASB: “This He said, and after that He said to them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I go, so that I may awaken him out of sleep.” Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that He was speaking of literal sleep. and I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, so that you may believe; but let us go to him.”
- John 11:25-26 NASB: “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?”
- John 11:39-44 NASB: “Jesus said, “Remove the stone.” Martha, the sister of the deceased, said to Him, “Lord, by this time there will be a stench, for he has been dead four days.” Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” So they removed the stone. Then Jesus raised His eyes, and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. I knew that You always hear Me; but because of the people standing around I said it, so that they may believe that You sent Me.” When He had said these things, He cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth.” The man who had died came forth, bound hand and foot with wrappings, and his face was wrapped around with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.”
Discussion:
- When Jesus heard that Lazarus whom he loved was sick, He did not go to meet him immediately. Instead, He told his disciples that Lazarus’ sickness would not end in death but for the glory of God.
- Even though they had just tried to stone Jesus to death in Judea (John 10), He was not afraid to return there. It was not yet His time to die.
- When he finally arrived in Bethany (the town they were resident in), Lazarus had already been buried for 4 days.
- Martha and Mary told Jesus that if He had come on time, Lazarus would not have died. Even though this was true, Jesus and a much greater plan.
- He wept when he saw Mary and the other Jews weeping for Lazarus.
- After praying to God the Father, Jesus called Lazarus’ name and he responded even though he had been dead for 4 days.
- Many of the people present believed in Jesus after witnessing Lazarus’ resurrection.
- The Pharisees on the other hand became more serious in their plot to kill Jesus.

I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. (Phillipians 3:12 NLT)
