Judges 8
Notable Verses:
Judges 8:23-24, 27 NLT: “But Gideon replied, “I will not rule over you, nor will my son. The Lord will rule over you! However, I do have one request—that each of you give me an earring from the plunder you collected from your fallen enemies.” (The enemies, being Ishmaelites, all wore gold earrings.) Gideon made a sacred ephod from the gold and put it in Ophrah, his hometown. But soon all the Israelites prostituted themselves by worshiping it, and it became a trap for Gideon and his family.”
Judges 8:33-35 NLT: “As soon as Gideon died, the Israelites prostituted themselves by worshiping the images of Baal, making Baal-berith their god. They forgot the Lord their God, who had rescued them from all their enemies surrounding them. Nor did they show any loyalty to the family of Jerub-baal (that is, Gideon), despite all the good he had done for Israel.”
Discussion:
The men from Ephraim were upset with Gideon for not calling them when he was leading a war towards the Midianites. He was however able to assuage their anger with wisdom and gentle words (v 1-4).
After Gideon had led the army in the defeat over the Midianites, they asked him to be their leader.
Gideon asked the people to give him earrings and he used it to make a . Unfortunately, the people started worshipping it.
Gideon served Israel for 40 years and died at a full old age. During his lifetime, the land had peace. After he died, they went back to serving false gods and idols.

Lord please fill me with the spirit of wisdom and gentleness so I will know how to answer all men. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
