Jojoba oil is touted as being the oil which has the closest similarity to our skin’s sebum. Last year, I tried using it as a scalp oil and I got a pimple on my scalp. I was terrified because I had never experienced anything like it. After doing a Google search, I learned that my dear old jojoba oil was comedogenic (having the tendency to clog pores). This doesn’t mean that you can’t use jojoba oil on your face but you should use in caution if you are prone to acne.
I have included a list of oils and butter with their comedogenic rating. It is just a guide because sometimes, you can use an oil with a high comedogenic rating and not develop acne. On the other hand, you can also use an oil with a low comedogenic rating and still develop acne. Do take note that the cause(s) of acne is multifactorial though and the only way to determine it’s actual cause would be with a cosmetic dermatologist in midtown manhattan.

Thank you for this.
You are most welcome dear!
I was always under the impression that mineral oil and petrolatum are not good for hair.
Yes they are not so good for hair not because they clog pores. It’s rather because of their superior sealing abilities. They lock in moisture and therefore also reduce the ability of your moisturizer to penetrate your hair. Although they don’t clog pores when applied to the skin, I would prefer something more natural like shea butter or hempseed oil. Love this article, I have been a soaper for years and this is the article that catches my attention. It is the easiest and makes the most sense to me that best explains the rating of each oil and butters on the 0-5 scale.
