Personal growth = Character development

In the process of developing your character, you will be confronted by the opposite of each character trait you are developing.

This ‘confrontation’ helps to refine the character trait. When you want your ability to love to grow, you will encounter situations where your love will be tested. Only then, can you grow in love.

When you desire to become a more peaceful person, you will experience conflict. This helps to test and refine your peace.

The same goes for joy, honesty, courage, humility and so on.

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.
(James 1:2-4 NLT)

In recent times, I have been praying for my faith to increase. I realize that when I pray for faith, I will encounter situations where my faith will be tested. Only then can my faith flourish.

Today was one of those days where my faith was tested. This morning, my second daughter was not responding to her name or any conversation directed at her. I was very upset because I have been praying for healing for my first daughter whose hearing is slightly impaired on the right. I started to cry but this bible verse came to my mind and I changed to a song of thanksgiving: Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
(1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NLT)
I let faith rise in my heart and prayed for her instead of feeling sorry for myself. I am so glad to testify that a few hours later, her hearing was restored. She is still complaining of a headache and I gave her some paracetamol and will take her to the doctors’ tomorrow for a full checkup.
