Daily Memory Verse: “The Lord appeared to him from afar, saying, “I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore I have drawn you with loving kindness (Jeremiah 31:3 NASB).” http://bible.com/100/jer.31.3.NASB

Bible reading for the day:

John 10

Notable Verses:

  • John 10:10 NASB: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.”
  • John 10:11‭-‬13 NASB: “I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep. He who is a hired hand, and not a shepherd, who is not the owner of the sheep, sees the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. He flees because he is a hired hand and is not concerned about the sheep.”
  • John 10:37‭-‬38 NASB: “If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; but if I do them, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I in the Father.”

Discussion:

  • Jesus’ main purpose for coming to earth was to give us eternal life. The devil’s purpose on the other hand is to steal, kill and destroy.
  • The Lord Jesus willingly laid his life down for us.
  • He is the good shepherd.
  • Jesus’ teachings were difficult for the Jews to understand. They felt that he was blaspheming by claiming to be the son of God and they even attempted to stone Him. He was however miraculously able to avoid them.
  • When Jesus returned to the place where John the Baptist had done his baptizing, many of the people there believed His teaching: their hearts had been prepared by John’s message of the coming messiah (v 40 – 42).

Today’s Prayer:
Dear Father, thank you for the great love you showed me by sending Jesus to lay his life down willingly for me. May I not know the voice of strangers but only the voice of Jesus. Deliver me from the evil one’s plans to steal, kill and destroy. Take all the glory in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

This is a trustworthy saying, worthy of full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the worst.  (1 Timothy 1:15 NLT)
